Where the Work Happens

Our issue-based Committees facilitate long-term organizing work in the Chapter around a particular area of struggle, or for Chapter administration and operations. All of our Committees work together to support DSA-LB as a whole. Some Committees are filled with members elected by Chapter Body while others are open for any and all Members-In-Good-Standing to join.

ELECTED COMMITTEE

Steering Committee

The Steering Committee serves as the democratically-elected leadership and executive body of DSA-LB, working to manage the day-to-day affairs of the chapter, represent the Local Chapter in the broader community, and provide guidance and support to the General Membership and its official organized bodies.

The comrades that make-up our Steering Committee include:

  • Chapter Co-Chairs (2)

  • Treasurer

  • Campaigns Coordinator

  • Membership Coordinator

  • Communications Coordinator

  • At-Large Officer(s)

COMMITTEES

Communications Committee

The Communications Committee (aka Comms) is responsible for maintaining internal and external communications for the Chapter including newsletter, social media, print materials, merchandising, and press contacts. In their own words, Comms exists to help promote and brag about all the hard work done by our Chapter.

Electoral Politics Committee

Our Electoral Politics Committee (aka EPC) organizes our electoral campaigns and policy strategy, researches candidates and ballot measures, and publishes voter guides. If you’re interested in winning for the working class at the ballot box, this is your Committee!

International Solidarity Committee

Socialism requires a united working class beyond national borders, and Long Beach in particular is an international city with its port and large immigrant populations. The International Solidarity Committee (aka ISC) organizes around issues facing the working class across the world, deepening an understanding of the interconnected struggles at home and abroad. ISC coordinates action with other local organizations, National DSA's International Committee (aka IC), and the rest of the Chapter's work around issues such as immigration, Palestinian liberation, Cuba solidarity, and the National Democratic Struggle in the Philippines.

Member Engagement Committee

Member Engagement Committee (aka MEC) fosters and supports member participation through social engagement and member development to build a stronger community of organizers. Members connect with other members to help with things like chapter onboarding, outreach, recruitment and retention.

Political Education Committee

Our Political Education Committee (aka PolEd) programs regular education sessions, member trainings, and reading groups to help sharpen member politics and open up discussions about how theory and practice are linked.
