Electoral politics, for us, is not about winning elections to vote our way to socialism. Socialism requires an integrated movement that builds working class power on many fronts. But this doesn’t mean that electoral politics are useless.
For DSA-LB, our organizing has run up against local elected officials who refuse to take on popular policy ideas or undo our work with actively harmful policies. Under capitalism, we know that political power is skewed towards the interests of the capitalist class.
The problems only intensify on the state and federal level, but opportunities to fight back against corporate greed, imperialism, and authoritarianism while building strong universal public programs and thriving working class communities await us if we organize for them.
Having champions for working class policies and better organizing conditions in local, state, and federal offices can make it easier to build worker power. They won’t save us, but they can play a role in our ability to take power back for ourselves.
Last but not least, electoral politics allows us to engage in mass political education. This voter guide provides analysis on races with an understanding of socialist politics and what we're up against.
As you read our guide, keep in mind that a recommendation for a candidate or ballot measure is not an endorsement of the same.
DSA-LB endorsements represent a high-level commitment of Chapter resources and Chapter-wide action for specific candidates — vetted by the DSA-LB Electoral Politics Committee (EPC) — whose endorsement is approved by the DSA-LB Chapter body
Recommendations act as a lower-stakes, informational voter guide preference suggested by DSA-LB EPC.
Our Chapter, being a grassroots organization with limited resources and a strategic focus, moved to approve only two (2) endorsements for the 2026 primary (see guide)
